Roger Smith founded Smith & Fraser in 1971 in Saltsprings, Antigonish Co., N.S. along with his business partner at the time. Since then he has taken sole ownership of the company and in 1990 the company spread its wings and moved to its current location in Lower South River, Antigonish Co., N.S. Today Roger shares the helm alongside his son, Stephen and together they prove daily that hard work and dedication are the keys to success. Much to Roger’s credit, Smith & Fraser is a thriving company today, employing twelve people and providing countless numbers of home-buyers with their needs and dreams. Away from the office Roger can be found on the golf course, at the beach or playing with his two grandchildren.

Stephen cut his teeth in the family business sweeping out mobile homes for an ice cream cone, shortly after he started walking, as he will quickly inform you. Since then, Stephen has done everything else at Smith & Fraser from blocking units in the mud with a delivery crew to his current role as general manager. In the summertime, Stephen is too busy for his hobbies. However, in the winter when he isn’t working as much & is willing to give up sleeping, he can be found blazing the trails in his snowmobile. Always kind and generous, Stephen is loved by his family, friends, staff and everyone he meets at Smith & Fraser.

The newest member of the Smith & Fraser family has been working diligently to fit in with this wacky bunch. She married Stephen in July of 2000 and hasn’t seen him since, although she is certain that when she does he will kinda look the same. Joyce has taken on the role of secretary-treasurer under the wise tutelage of her mother-in-law, Maureen and has also been known to sell a home or two. Although not born into the family business, she loves it as if she had been and alongside Stephen hopes to continue the success of Smith & Fraser.

Recently transplanted back home in Antigonish after living in Winnipeg for ten years, Michelle cautiously took over the role of Parks Manager for Antigonish Development Co. Ltd. Now she plants and prunes, digs and mulches and oh yeah… does paperwork. Little did she know how much this job would require, but she has taken on the responsibilities with a vigor and has quickly worked her way to being the person to talk to concerning the parks. When not up to her nose in mud or paperwork, Michelle can be found at the gym, playing hockey or being a wonderful aunt. Her family and friends welcome her home with open arms and gratefully appreciate her wit, hard work and dedication.
